After a beautifully sunny and warm second day at WMCFW, we were greeted with rain and cold on the third day. I decided to play off the sombre mood by dressing in a completely black outfit (minus the toque) and even went as far as some darker lips with OCC Lip Tar’s Black Dahlia. It may be Spring, but I’m going to get as vampy as I can when I want to. Overall I wanted to create a relatively minimalistic outfit with details being the accents.
Accessorizing with a grey toque (because I don’t have black, and I felt that a completely head-to-toe outfit would pass for a little too aggresive) and my patent-chained boots, I relied heavily on my long-lined vest to create length and dimension.
Although I wore a turtleneck, it still wasn’t quite warm enough, so a jacket was necessary. Keeping with the black theme, I went for my black & white speckled Zara coat to keep myself cozy while refraining from adding any more color (colors aren’t really my thing to begin with if you haven’t already noticed).
Obviously in fashion you don’t actually have to wear a jacket to stay warm. A simple shoulder drape is more than enough to trap the arm underneath your jacket while still allowing your outfit underneath to shine through. Here’s a little secret, always incorporate your jacket into your outfit so that even when it’s draped over your shoulders, everything is still cohesive. Which means that parkas won’t cut it, but duster coats and blazers do (which might be why I’ve begun to gravitate towards these style of jackets instead – when a jacket can do a double duty, why not?).
To balance out such a simple outfit on top, I had to throw some hardware into the mix somewhere. If it’s not a watch, I’ll find somewhere to sneak in hardware. I grabbed these chained booties from Zara awhile back during one of their sales and haven’t quite shown it the love that it deserves, but I fully believe that everything gets its time to shine. Apparently today was the day for these booties. I was on the verge of getting rid of these boots since I didn’t wear it as often as I had thought that I would, but after receiving so much positive feedback, I’ve decided that once again I’ll keep them.

The day began off with a designer who showcased a different side of fashion. Atelier Wonder explored the technological side of fashion that’s inspired by some heavy Tron and early 90’s technology theme (or so I thought it was). Keyed with some aggressively bright makeup that complemented the designs well along with loud electronic beats, it was easy to see that the collection is perfect for a bold individual. Though it may not be something that I’d wear, I can definitely appreciate how the graphic designs were carefully integrated into the collection.
To be a true Canadian, you must have tried the Canadian Tuxedo at least once, and it doesn’t get any better than Triarchy’s head-to-toe denim looks. Can I get my hands on a denim hat already? I absolutely loved how Triarchy’s show had a story line to it where some of the models played along with the camp theme. Besides selling me on the clothes, I was ready to sign up for Camp Triarchy as well. The only problem would be that I don’t think I could wrack up as many badges as some of the girls had on their jeans. But then again, I could just go out and buy a pair of Triarchy jeans to remedy that problem right?
You guys know that I’m all for the minimalistic look, so although I wasn’t completely sold on Malorie Urbanovitch’s color palette, I loved the silhouettes. Heavy knit sweaters? I’m already sold.
Klaxon Howl’s travel back in time aesthetic isn’t exactly my style, but I can always jump on board with some A line shapes as well as all black outfits. Yes please!
I may not be adventurous enough to rock out Hayley Elsaesser’s neon colors and bold prints, but I can totally jump on board with the matching separates theme. You guys already know how much I like separates that work together (functionality!) and apart as well, so hopefully one day my black and white style may step out far eonugh to try out bright colors.
You definitely can’t go wrong with leather, and when there’s fur in the mix, I’m dying over the moon for everything. Rudsak absolutely killed it with their FW15 collection and had me craving for the weather to be cold enough to bust out my parka again (except I don’t actualy want it to be cold).
