WMCFW Day 1 Recap + GIVEAWAY

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

Now that the all of the craziness of World Mastercard Fashion Week F/W 2015 has finally died down at work, I can start pumping out recaps of my own for how it went. It’s typical for the show-goers to go all out with their crazy outfits each season in order to get the best shots from the fashion photographers, but that’s not my case. I come under the pretense of working, so although I like to dress up to an extent, my outfits still have to be relatively comfortable so that I can freely move around and do what I need to do. You don’t want a too-short skirt stopping you from bending down low to catch that nice street style shot!

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

I’ve recently been getting into quite a monochromatic palette, so don’t worry when you find my series of WMCFW outfits aren’t as elaborate as they were last season. I’ve toned it down on the colors lately (#doitforthegram) to keep my Instagram feed consistent and not all over place with color – but that doesn’t mean that I’m dressing any differently. If anything, I’ve felt that I’ve truly found my personal style and that before I was too much of a mish-mash. Everyone has to eventually settle down with something right? Not to say that I won’t continue to experiment with different trends and styles, but I think that I’ve solidified my taste.

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

This season around was a little bit cooler than the last, so I had to make sure that I was dressed for both work inside and outside of the tents. Inside it’s nice and warm (and we sat next to a heater in the media lounge), so although we were in our own little sauna bubble, the minute we stepped outside, the cold was like walking into a wall and hitting your face dead on.

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

The first day only had 3 designers showing, and since it was already later in the day, I wanted a relatively covered up outfit to keep myself warm. I actually found this boat neck tank at H&M a few days right before WMCFW and instantly knew that I wanted to centre an outfit around it somehow. It’s quite the simple piece but with some unique attributes such as a high collar as well as side slits. I knew that I wanted everything to remain simple and as A-line as possible.

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

How do I add some texture into a simple outfit? With leather of course. If you’re not on track with my leather game by now, then here’s a heads up: I’m a huge leather fiend. Or for anything that looks like leather (I’m not trying to throw away my paycheques for leather everything if I don’t have to), you can bet that I’ll try to get my hands on it.

I decided to break up the soft material with my long leather skirt (also from H&M – gosh that store has everything, it’s pretty bad for my bank account) and my silver buckle boots that I also recently picked up a few weeks back. Of course the leather mayhem didn’t quite stop there. After deciding to keep myself warm with a speckled duster coat (a recent Zara purchase – boy am I glad that I waited for it to go on sale!), I finished off the look with this adorable tan bucket bag that I was gifted from Dynamite.

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

Bucket bags have been all the rage lately and I was absolutely thrilled when Dynamite reached out to me to send me a couple of pieces from their new Spring collection. Once I saw that a bucket bag was in the midst of clothes, I just knew that I had to have it for myself.

At first I was a little wary as to how functional it would be (hello removed lack of space because of a drawstring), but after receiving it and giving it a test drive, I was actually quite pleased with how much stuff I could fit into it. Would you be surprised to know that I was able to fit my DSLR, wallet and other personal belongings into this tiny little bag?

Think of those magical camping tents from Harry Potter that don’t take up much space from the outside, but the inside opens up to become a mansion. That’s basically what this bag does. It looks small from the outside, but once you start putting things into it, you realize just how much it can hold.

But let’s not forget about the designers that showed during the first day. Although there were only 3 in total (quite small regardless of any day of WMCFW), here are my best of the bunch (just kidding, I actually liked them all).

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

Mikhael Kale is one of the Canadian designers that easily and consistently tops my list of favorites. Although his pieces may not be completely wearable on a day-to-day basis, I always love how much detail he puts into each and every single one of his designs. It’s the intricate detailing that always gets to me, as well as the fun use of differnt fabrics that contrast yet go so well together.

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

I don’t know what it is about Sid Neigum, but I always fall in love with anything that he designs. Even after only discovering him last year because of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up competition (which he won – and which I was rooting for him to win), I looked back to his past collections and every single one I liked. As in truly liked. Not just one or two pieces here and there, but there were many of them that I fell in love with. It might just be monochromatic color scheme, or creative use of textures, or even the sheer simplicity of his designs that flow with movement, but I just absolutely loved everything from his FW15 collection.

WMCFW Day 1 - Recap

It’s strange because last season, I wasn’t exactly fond of Pink Tartan’s offers for SS15. The 60’s aren’t exactly a huge inspirational time for me, so the whole bell-bottom and swingy silhouettes didn’t seem that attractive (which is weird considering I enjoy quite a bit of silk and satin). This time however, my lust for fur came out in full force with the fur-everything collection that they presented. You guys know how much I like my fur vest and nude palettes, so when these gorilla style jackets along with sleeveless sweaters were presented, I immediately knew that they had to be mine. Plus it was in this 50 shades of grey theme which is currently all I’m feeling, so you know, a girl is gonna want it all.
