Travel Beauty Must Haves

Travel Beauty Must Haves

We’re dead in the middle of summer right now – which means travel season! Being an avid traveler myself, I’ve kind of developed a go-to packing list of my absolute must have beauty products that are not only used in my everyday routine, but work fantastically when traveling as well! If you’re looking for any new products to include in your beauty routine, make sure to keep on reading to find out what makes the cut when I’m on the road!

Skincare

I definitely value the quality of my skin more than makeup, and firmly believe that the better your skin is, the less makeup you have to wear. That doesn’t mean that I consider my skin to be perfect, but that I’d rather spend my time and money on improving the quality of skin over putting on makeup. Not to say either that I don’t love a good lipstick or blush!

Like everyone else, I can get kind of lazy when traveling – I mean, being on the road can be quite tiring! On the days that I can’t bring myself to the bathroom to wash my face, I always ensure that I take off all of my makeup with my Philosophy Purity One-Step Facial Cleansing Cloths. Back in highschool, I used to use the facial cleanser in the same line, purely because it did such an amazing job at both washing my face and taking off makeup – that I’m glad that they’ve now come out with a portable version. In wipes!

I also dislike bringing potted products with me when traveling, because I’m always weary of my luggage being tossed around and the possibility of the products breaking, so finding the Philosophy Take a Deep Breath Eye cream in tube form was kind of a life saviour.

Like any other person, traveling can kind of stress my body out, so I always make sure to pack my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Not for the moisturizing qualities that it has for my skin, but purely for the soothing aspect of the scent. I’m not quite sure how to describe the smell beyond the fact that it’s extremely soothing and comforting, but it definitely helps me fall asleep instantly while I’m on the road.

Traveling by plane also tends to really dry out my lips, sometimes leading to cold sores – which is a complete no no. So I’ve recently been bringing along Bite’s Agave Lip Mask anytime I go somewhere to give my lips that extra seal of moisture.

My travels typically take me to warmer places, and I often find myself spending more time outdoors when I’m on a trip, and bringing along a sunscreen is a no-brainer. The Avene Eau Thermale Emulsion SPF 50+ has been a recent favourite, mainly because of how easy it is to blend into my skin, and how lightly scented it is. I’ve always avoided sunscreen (I know, shame on me), because of a sensitivity that I have to the smell of it, but this one is so mild that I really don’t mind applying it.

Makeup

Like I said, I’m not one to play a lot with makeup, but I definitely do have some go-to’s. Minimizing my pores have always been top priority of mine (I think it goes hand-in-hand with my skincare obsession), and Benefit’s POREfessional has been a recent discovery that has changed my world. I’m not one to use foundation, so even just a light application of the product across my skin with a dusting of translucent powder makes a tremendous difference.

While we’re on the topic of Benefit, I need to take a moment to rave about Posie Balm. I absolutely love how smoothly this balm applies, and added to the fact that it’s tinted and rose pigmented and I’m sold. For the days when I’m too lazy (this seems to be a trend) to apply lip colour, this balm is an easy fix.

But for days that I can take the time to apply some colour to my lips, I’ve found myself reaching for Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche lipstick in Chai. I will admit that I’m kind of a sucker for the product purely for supporting local, but also because this shade is ridiculous. In the past I thought that I had found the “my lips but better” shade, but clearly I was wrong. Chai is a muddy, dusty rose with some touches of red that is pigmented, but doesn’t look like I have lipstick on. You have to try it out for yourself to understand, but there’s no better way to describe this lippie other than pure perfection.

And yes, there’s a nail polish in the mix as well. I know I’ll be made fun of for bringing polish with me on a trip, but nothing bothers me more than chipped nails. I have a strange obsession with having perfectly manicured nails (or bare nails), so chips bother me to no end. Because of that, I tend to wear neutral colours when traveling to call less attention to my nails as opposed to chipping a vibrant shade. With time being a constraint, I’ve been loving this Sally Hansen polish in Nude Awakening. Mainly for the colour, but also for the wide brush that makes polish application a breeze.

Haircare

When traveling, I definitely find myself washing my hair more frequently. To stave off the washes, I always make sure that I pack along a dry shampoo. Since I prolonged my washes due to the condition of my hair, I’ve had the opportunity to try a variety of dry shampoos and can say that Klorane’s Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk is a no-brainer holy grail. I’ve been using the nude toned shampoo, and love that it doesn’t leave white residue in my hair, and instantly absorbs any oils. A definite winner in my eyes!
