Happy Monday! It’s the start of a new week so here’s some fresh content. I’ve been away for a couple of weeks (on the blog at least) and all for good reason. Last week was a week full of travel, and then I came down with a cold that really kept me from doing too much. So I’ve mostly spent the past couple of days recuperating and catching up on the lack of shooting.
Coming back from LA to Toronto was a little bit of a weather shock, since it’s significantly warmer over on the West Coast. I was hoping to catch up on content production this weekend, but the chilly weather really prevented me from being to shoot too much outdoors, so I set up a studio shoot with some blogger besties, Mel & Aney, and we met up on Saturday for some fun!
I’ve covered the topic before in a previous post of the cost of blogging, and this is definitely one of them. I often get asked how I continue to create content in the winter time when the weather dips below anything tolerable to be shooting outdoors, and studio shoots are my go-to. I’d love to say that my condo provides for enough space to continuously shoot content, but it really doesn’t. There’s only so much you can do with it before outfit shots become repetitive – I do have to thank it for the amazing sunlight that I get though. It definitely helps when it comes to shooting product content.
Every blogger has dream editorials in their mind, but it’s really hard to put imagination to an actual blog post without being able to get ahold of these cool spaces in order to shoot in. How would you know where to shoot a whimsical castle scene if you don’t even know where or how to get ahold of a castle to begin with? This is where thisopenspace (I’m going to refer to it as TOS from now on, because it’s just easier that way) saves the day for me.
TOS would probably equate to the AirBnB of venues. Literally the blogger version of online shopping, but for studio space. It took me next to no time to bookmark my wishlist spaces, all while dreaming of the cool content that I could create in them – #BloggerGoals. Besides this space that I shot in, here are my top 2 other selections. And if those aren’t enough, you can check out my complete wish list. Warning, fellow bloggers may get giddy with excitement.
This past weekend’s space:
Next up on my wishlist…
See winters aren’t so bad when you have options. I know that these aren’t necessarily options for everyone since there is a cost involved, but I hope that I was able to help out any fellow bloggers who are also in the winter shooting rut and are curious about options!

Hi Yara,
Haha yessss, editorials are my daily when coming up with shoot ideas! Bummed to hear that thisopenspace isn’t available in London yet 🙁 Hopefully they expand to the UK soon! It’s so amazing what they offer and I wish that I’d stumbled on them earlier to avoid the cold winter shoots in previous years haha.
To be honest in regards to staying close and determining what it is that is considered “close” – I’ve just noticed how easy it is to get carried away in it and I want to be able to stay true to myself. Yes it’s a job, and I want to be able to do what I love, but at the end of the day if it becomes something that I hate, then what’s the point? To that, I’ve tried to only d work that makes me happy, and as a result, it shows because the content is purer, and more authentic 🙂
Hope this helps!
