The Perfect Sunglasses

The Perfect Sunglasses

When it comes to sun protection for my eyes, the pickings are slim. For me at least. I’m blessed with the typical Asian nose – meaning that I have a lack of a nose bridge, which isn’t ideal for sunglasses that don’t come with nosepads. When I throw them on loosely, they slide down my nose, and when I push them down tight they leave unsightly indents. Let’s just say that plastic frames and me don’t get along well.

And even when I find the perfect sunglasses that settle nicely on my nose, a secondary problem comes into play – my cheek bones. I don’t dislike my cheekbones per se, but they seriously get in the way of larger frames.

The Perfect Sunglasses

Most of the sunglasses that I’ve come across have quite an acute angle between the arms and the lens. The bottom of the frame typically bends inwards towards the face, but my overly high cheekbones tend to get in the way. This often results in the frames hitting my cheek bones before I can even fully place them onto my nose.

The Perfect Sunglasses

Because of my nose and my cheeks, my entire sunglass collection consists mostly of aviators with a smattering of plastic frames that magically fit my face shape. Last year I came across the brand Covry, that designs frames to suit needs like mine and I was sold.

When you constantly encounter a problem on a weekly basis (only while shopping at least), it starts to become an annoyance. I had accepted the fact that standard frames weren’t designed to suit my face shape, and stopped hoping that sunglasses that looked pretty would fit. So when I learned that a brand was designing frames with those needs in mind, I was over the moon ecstatic that someone out there was finally addressing the needs of a large market which wasn’t being fulfilled.

Covry’s Elevated Fit is designed to have a slimmer nose bridge that better supports flatter noses, as well as deeper and longer nose pads so that the frames stay raised on your nose as opposed to sliding down your cheeks. And I love how the arm to lens angle is closer to a 90 degree angle as opposed to an acute one.

Can we also talk about how cute their designs are? You’d think that a brand focused on the technological design would lag on the actual visual design aspect, but no. I’m in awe with how on trend Covry’s frames are. From the thick acrylic frames to the mirror-level reflective lenses, there isn’t a single pair that looks dated. So basically, I want them all.

A personal favourite of mine are their Vegas, which look like a hybrid between clubmasters and plastic frames. Unfortunately my favourite colour (Vega Beige) have been out of stock for awhile, but I definitely need to get a pair for myself as soon as their back in stock, so I picked up the Vega Black instead.

These frames look gorgeous on you, love the monochrome outfit as well! I have a super flat nose bridge so finding sunglasses that fit is such a chore, especially plastic frames!
