I’ve always been a purse girl and haven’t exactly used a knapsack since I graduated. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve used a bag with two straps for anything else besides carrying books. Two straps that go on different shoulders are a foreign feeling to me. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a one shoulder girl – to the point where my right shoulder now drops slightly lower than my left.
I’ve always thought that it was an old wive’s tale, so I never really believed that something like that could actually happen. It’s one of those deny until it happens to me type of situations.
Ever since I’ve been blogging a lot more within the past year, I’ve had to carry my camera around with me everywhere I go. You never want to miss out on the opportunity of a good shot! But cameras are heavy, and the constant lugging around of it has started to create some sharp pains in my right shoulder.
Standing in front of the mirror, I tried to analyze my body for any signs of where the pains might be coming from. I noticed a significant drop in my right shoulder compared to my left and concluded that it might just be the excessive weight that I’ve been making my right shoulder constantly support, day-in and day-out.
What began as a simple temporary solution to relieve myself from pain quickly began a long-term option – just because it felt so good. I’ve been trading in my Neverfull MM for the Dionne Mini Buckle Backpack from My Femme Crush, and the days that I’ve been using it have resulted in less pain in my right shoulder. It’s surprising how such a small change can affect such a larger picture.
Knapsacks and backpacks have both been creeping up everywhere lately, which is making it dangerously easy for me to find different options for different outfits. I know that they’re not exactly the same size as a tote (meaning that they can’t carry as much), but the tinier silhouettes have inspired me to only take with me what’s important and leave behind the superfluous.
The bag change has not only inspired me to switch things up from a one-shoulder tote to a double strap bag, but to also rotate back and forth between my right and left shoulder on days that I’m using a tote. Sometimes it’s important to realize that it’s the small things that matter and that not all problems need to be solved by a big gesture.
