Today we’re going to kick it back a little old-school (okay not that old), with an outfit that I wore almost a month back but have yet to share it on my blog. I always seem to want what I can’t have. Don’t get me wrong, now that the weather has gotten warmer, I can’t wait for patio days and beach side lounging. But I just know that on the hottest of hot days, I’ll be back to wishing for snow and winter. And it’s odd, because everytime winter comes around, I couldn’t wish for anything more than some sun.
It’s always a surprise when you’re living in a country that cycles through four different seasons, but fun at the same time since you can try so many different styles. You’d probably never see a California girl wearing a parka (unless she’s visiting the North), and you’d never see anyone up in the far North hanging out in a bikini. Although it can be an annoyance, having a variety in my closet really helps to push my creative boundaries when it comes to putting together different looks.
Back when I was still in school, I could get away with wearing my favorite Roots sweatpants, a simple tank top and any one of my Lululemon scuba sweaters. But now that I’m working fulltime, getting away with dressing casually is a litle bit more difficult since I have to be presentable on a daily basis. On days that I want to be a little bit more comfortable, I like to resort to my “luxury athletic wear” looks.
The quotes around ‘luxury athletic wear’ are actually in fact necessary, because there’s no way ever that you could get away doing anything remotely athletic in these clothes. So why the “athletic wear” word if these clothes aren’t designed for physical activity? Because they make me look like as if I just came from a run/the gym/a quick yoga class. And people always let off other people who are dressed a little bummier when they look like they just came from the gym. Fashion hack? Definitely.
Oversized T-shirts are my obvious go-to when I want the ultimate level of comfort without having to dive into the world of leggings since they’re long enough for me to wear without having to wear something on the bottom. And unlike a tailored dress, I can actually move around in these shirts and even lounge in them without feeling restricted.
So when the weather got warm enough to shed my parka but not quite warm enough for my toes to make their debut back on the streets, I just knew that a sporty outfit was the right fit. Not only do the pseudo runners have enough grip to prevent me from slipping on melting ice, but they’re warm enough without feeling like I’m wearing winter boots. Plus the snow isn’t high enough to sneakily make its way into my shoes (I don’t know anyone who doesn’t hate wet socks/ankles), so goodbye calf-high boots and hello to all of my ankle shoes!
But since the T-shirt and runners alone looked pretty flat, the entire outfit called for some fun accessorizing to complete the look. It was still slighly chilly even though the snow had started to melt, so a toque was an obvious option. I wanted to break up the grey on grey and one of the easiest ways to do that without having to layer another piece of clothing on top is with jewelry.
You’ll know by now that my first go-to when accessorizing with jewelry are earrings. Studs are my life, and if I could wear only one pair for the rest of my life, it would be these oversized pearls. I’d pick them anyday even over my Chanels. They instantly sophisticize any outfit (trust me, I’ve even been able to make pajamas look good with a pair of pearls), which made them perfect for such a casual outfit. Pearls in and toque on, I was ready to start my day comfortably!
