Last week, I finally did something that I was in dire need of for a long time – a staycation. As a marketer and blogger, I’m literally working 24/7. When most people get to wrap up work at 5 and head out to hang with their friends, I rotate from my 9-5 to my 5-9. I’ve never been one to stop working since lack of productivity leaves me feeling anxious. Though this may appear to be a positive trait for some, I sometimes feel like it’s a curse. I’m always left hunting for the next thing and I never give my body the rest and relaxation it deserves. So when Origins approached me to join them on a staycation at the Thompson Hotel, I knew that naturally I deserved it!
If you followed along on Instagram last week, then you would have seen all of the fun that we got up to through my stories. I invited my BFF Mel along with me to experience our little staycation – because duh, I’m not going to stay overnight in a hotel by myself, totally not fun. And we stayed up all night with Origins reliving our girliest slumber party dreams!
After we checked into our rooms and were showered with some lovely products from the Origins GinZing Line, we kicked off the evening with dinner at Colette with the loveliest of bloggers (Joelle, Sabrina, Sarah, and Angela) – I absolutely love Colette so I was so excited to be dining there for the evening. The dinner was delicious and I highly recommend that you order their Gin Sour if you drink and have plans to visit Colette. Following came more cocktails and a tasting at the private bar inside of the Thompson! We had the pleasure of enjoying cocktails curated with flavours of ingredients in the GinZing products before heading off to a movie night.
Obviously, it wouldn’t be a fun girls night without a screening of Clueless! The quintessential movie for every 90’s baby! With all of the activities planned, we were definitely going to be staying up all night (well Mel and I did at least)! I don’t think that we fell asleep till at least 4 AM. Which is totally fine because we were going to be ready for the next morning thanks to the caffeine in the GinZing line.
The morning after, we woke up to the loveliest skincare consultation on the Thompson rooftop where we learned some more about the line, got to tryout the GinZing SPF40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer (which is super cool because it comes out white, but then the skin-matching tech allows it to colour-match to your own shade), the GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream, the GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer, and the GinZing Energy-Boosting Mascara.
The GinZing line really hit home for me due to the fact that caffeine is a primary ingredient. Anyone who knows me knows that coffee is my lifeline, and I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without it (queue my IG tagline – ‘coffee first’). Just knowing that caffeine is infused into the products so that I can ingest it both inside and out is such a big plus for me. I don’t often get the chance to sleep much (my regular nights are around 5 hours at most), and being woken up by a fresh mug of coffee and a quick zing to my skin is much needed. A little tip that I learned is that if you place the products in the fridge and allow it to cool before applying, the caffeine gets activated and will greatly improve the effectiveness of it on your skin. Note to self that this does not apply to drinking coffee – consuming cold coffee isn’t advantageous to hot coffee.
After only a 4 hours worth of sleep, application of the caffeine infused products definitely woke me up and had me ready for the day. Luckily the day got off to a calm start, thanks to a yoga class on the Thompson rooftop patio. Fourty-five minutes of stretching is definitely the best way to start your day, followed by parfaits and more coffee of course.
As we wrapped up our little staycation at the Thompson, I couldn’t help but imagine a life without coffee, and now applying it to my skin as well.

I’m the same way! I always need to feel like I’m doing something productive – no matter how small. It keeps me motivated, but can also be so exhausting.

Hey Cristina,
Glad to know that I’m not the only one! I swear that I’m a walking example of the cliche “time is money”. I always feel like if I’m not doing something, that I’m wasting time. It’s the woooorsttt!
