High heels are a struggle to spend your day in, but rompers and overalls are a whole new story. If you’ve ever worn one, then you’ll understand the frustration of going to the bathroom. The simplest part of your day instantly becomes the most difficult. Not only did I do a little bit of fashion rewinding with these overalls, but some life rewinding as well (think 22 years back when I was being potty-trained, except this time it was because I didn’t want to take off my pants to go to the bathroom).
It’s like as if these one pieces are the straight-jackets of the fashion world – you’re willing to fend off the urge to run to the bathroom just to avoid the annoying motions of completely stripping down. Yup, getting a UTI becomes a much more viable option than the mere motion of taking off my clothes.
Once the overalls come off, they’re not meant to be taken off until the day is over – because once they’re off, they’re off. Taking off my overalls is synonymous to taking off my bra – it signals the end of my day and that I can finally relax (although that isn’t an option when I’m still at work).
I made the mistake of wearing these cute ripped, white-denim overalls to work the day and completely regretted my decision. Although they paired really well with my knitted black crop (the crop was a fun way to show off all of the back and side detailing), they didn’t fair well with my bladder urges.
I typically spend the entire day at work at a computer and the seated position mixed together with the lack of constant motion that I’m used to from my past employment sometimes makes the day a little bit lackluster. I don’t necessarily get bored at work, but I become agitated from sitting in one position all day long.
Sometimes out of boredom, I eat to keep myself entertained. I know it sounds weird, but most people do it too. The motion of reaching for food, coupled with chewing and swallowing is the perfect minimal motion required to jump-start my attention without distracting me from the work that I’m supposed to be doing.
To avoid over-eating and to keep myself hydrated, I try to drink as many liquids as possible (ie. water, tea, coffee, smoothies, etc.), which can be good, but also bad at the same time.
Drinking that many fluids usually ends up with quite a few runs to the bathroom, and wearing overalls is kind of annoying when you’re always running back and forth, to and from the bathroom.
It’s even worse when you’re wearing a sweater or some kind of jacket overtop of the overalls and you have to take that off before you can even begin to unbuckle the overalls. Yep, a legimate fashion struggle.
So what exactly can you do to get around this struggle, or rather yet what did I do to get around this struggle? Nothing really.
Unless installing a back-flap is an option, the constant unbuckling is exactly what I did all day long. Luckily for me, it was a short day since it was cut short with several meetings.
