Printed Leggings 2 Ways

When you think of printed leggings, trendy most likely isn’t the first word that comes to mind. It’s funny how word associations dictate what we purchase, because when I think of printed leggings, I see the words tacky, 90s and ratchet. Yes, ratchet. But that doesn’t always have to be the case.

Yes, if you’re wearing bright pink and black leggings you’re going to look like a walking People of Walmart specimen. But when done right, it can (surprisingly) look really good!

If you’re a follower of my Instagram (@thelustlistt), then you’ll know that I have a serious addiction to marble print. Meaning that anything that’s been marblized is an instant purchase the moment I lay my eyes onto them. When I saw that Bench. Canada released a pair of black marble leggings, I knew that there was no stopping myself to picking up a pair.

I’ll admit that I was unsure as to how to style them at first, but then quickly learned that the neutral colouring made that task fairly easy.

So the first lesson learnt was that printed leggings don’t come off as tacky if they aren’t multi-coloured. But that doesn’t mean that you should run out and pick up the first pair of zebra-printed leggings either because that just isn’t cute.

It would be blasphemous to make such a comfortable article of clothing part of an uncomfortable outfit, so I thought that I would only do right by it by creating 2 different looks that no longer work well but feel good too.

For the first outfit, I decided on a crop top since the leggings have such a high waistline. This made it easy to showcase the marble print in all it’s glory. I then layered over top of the crop with a super soft knit sweater because it’s winter and I definitely can’t get away with just wearing a crop underneath my jackets anymore.

For my second outfit, I also stayed within the same colour palette, but changed out the silhouette of the top. I decided to go for a longer hem, but in full on white so as to create a nice contrast between the top and bottom portion of my outfit.

The stark contrast between the white (it’s actually beige) sweater and the marble leggings actually helps to put the leggings in the spotlight even though you see less of it than the first outfit. It’s funny how colours can change what your eyes are pulled to.

Acessory wise, I kept it on the DL with my new silver CLUSE watch that blends into the colour palette and (surprise, surprise) a chunky pair of black boots. I’m in love with these Sante Shoes boots because they too blend into the leggings and really help to perpetuate the illusion of long legs.
