Pink & Grey

Fresh off the heels of Valentine’s Day, I’ve been wearing a lot more pink than I’ve ever anticipated. But because my other most worn color is black, I’m not fond of the black and pink combo that’s vaguely reminiscent of the 90s punk days. Black and neon pink isn’t exactly a staple color combination in my closet, nor is black and any shade of pink. So instead of avoiding pink altogether, the only other option is to substitute black for grey.

Though not as abundant in my wardrobe as black (which means I need to get some more grey pieces, and I already have my mind set on what I need), grey isn’t as aggressive and much easier to incorporate into pink outfits without pushing on the boundaries of punk.

My pink jacket is fairly bulky and its structure can easily overwhelm my frame, so I decided to pair it with a loose, grey, dress t-shirt that’s similar in structure in regards to drapiness. Is ‘drapiness‘ even a word? Because if not, it is now in my fashion vocabulary. How else would you explain the draping of a garment without using the word as an adjective? And although the t-shirt itself is drapey like the jacket, its construction is of a much lighter material, giving it an overall gentler feel.

But because it obviously is winter and I can’t walk around with exposed legs, I didn’t want a top heavy look with tights, and instead opted for my favorite thigh-highs. Not only do they keep me warm during my morning commute, but the slight exposure of skin breaks up the head-to-toe grey-scale look and also helps to elongate my legs.
