If you’re a last minute shopper like I am (I always somehow leave everything until it’s too late), then this post is for you! Luckily there’s still an entire week before Christmas so you’ve still got some time to go, but if you’re struggling to come up with the perfect gift for that perfect someone, look no further. Together with the #MDVP squad, we’ve rounded up some of our absolute favourite gifts to give this holiday season and hopefully they hit the nail on the head for someone on your list too!
For the Fashion Fiend
Fashion meets function in these amazing pair of boots. If you live in a country that gets snow during the winter, then you’ll understand how essential it is to have a solid pair of winter boots. But far and few between are both functional and fashionable. When you think of winter boots, you think of clunky rubber masses that you can’t wait to kick off for a cute pair of boots as soon as you get into the office. When it comes to my Olang boots, I never think about bringing a second pair of shoes to change into.
Not only are these boots warm as can be (this is my third winter wearing the Sound boots, and my first winter wearing the Glamour boots), but they’re cute and on trend as well! Lug soles are the it-shoe style this season and Olang serves that style up on a platter and more. With a variety of finishes from patent, to leather, to suede, you’re bound to find a style that suits your needs.
Any time anyone ever asks me for a winter boot recommendation, I never hesitate to share my favourite—Olang.
Did I also mention that they have these super cool cleats underneath the shoes that you can pivot and flip in and out so that you never have to worry about slipping on ice ever again? These boots are a serious life saver when it comes to Canadian winters and I really don’t know what I would do without them.
For the Beauty Lover
We all have that one person in our life that is absolutely obsessed with beauty. And with all of the holiday dinners, parties, and celebrations going on at this time of the year, that’s a lot of overtime and work they’re going to be putting on their body. It’s safe to say that the dry and cold air outside really doesn’t help either, so let’s talk about the basics—building a good base that is. Everybody knows that a house without a solid foundation, no matter how beautiful it looks, will never stay standing in the long run. The same goes for your skin and hair. It’s important to take care of the base before you can even bother to do anything else to spruce yourself up.
In the winter time, I tend to find myself reaching for heavier duty products to not only restore the moisture, but to maintain hydration as well. For the past month as I’ve been gearing up for all of the holiday content that I’ve been producing, I’ve been frequently reaching out Revlon’s Uniq One Duo Pack every time after I wash my hair to maintain the integrity of my hair through all of the styling. Not only does it act as a heat protectant (you all know that I love to curl my hair), but it also does an amazing job at taming fly-aways and keeping my hair smooth under all of the knit hats and hoods that I’ll be wearing. Staticky baby hairs who? No seriously, this 10-in-1 hair treatment has done wonders to the quality and health of my hair and I really don’t know what I was doing with my life before I began using this.
If you have that beauty nut on your Christmas gift list (and they probably already own every hot beauty release this year), get them the gift of healthy hair so that even on days when they don’t feel like glamming up, they’ll still look amazing!
For the Frequent Flyer
This also sort of falls under the beauty category as well, but I would actually file this more under the frequent flyer/traveler just because the Silk’n Infinity Hair Removal Device is literally an at-home-laserist’s dream. Not only does the device actually does an amazing job at removing hair, but it comes in the most travel friendly kit that I’ve ever seen. Have you ever heard of any sort of beauty device being sold with travel adapters in the kit?! Because I haven’t and this comes with just that! Forget rescheduling any of your laser hair appointments, or missing a session, you can literally laser on the go.
I brought the Infinity with me on our recent trip to Copenhagen just to test out the adapters to see if they would actually work in foreign countries, and I can safely confirm that they do! I managed to squeeze in 1 laser session while everyone was getting ready one morning, and since it takes less than 10 minutes for me to do both of my legs, I was able to stay on schedule with my lasering sessions even while traveling! Now I never have to pack a razor with me ever again when I’m traveling.
Psssst! You can score the Silk’n Infinity on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart at the moment for 15% off! I’d highly recommend that you take advantage of this deal before the prices go back to normal! And while you’re at it, why not scoop one up for yourself too?
For the Sentimentalist
We all have that one friend who isn’t a fan of picking up a random gift just for the sake of getting someone a Christmas present, and you’re always stuck in a limbo as to what to get them. This year for MDVP, we actually chose to go this route instead of getting each other meaningless gifts. The four of us went online onto etsy.ca and created wish lists of things that we wanted and then shared them with each other. The only step after that? Selecting a gift off of each others’ wish lists and surprising the other person with it. A great way to also spruce it up a knotch is by gifting the other person something meaningful and personalized!
Peter and I got Mel and Dave an embroidered blanket, and a personalized decanter. As they both recently purchased a home a few years ago and have been slowly renovating it, they included many home decor selections on their wish list for us to choose from. Peter and I on the other hand are currently in full swing of planning our wedding, so we decided to knock off a few things that have been on our wedding check list with the help of a little Christmas gift exchange and etsy.ca. At the top of our list included a cake topper, personalized thank you cards, wedding invitations, acrylic welcome signs, and personalized cutting boards to serve hors d’oeuvres on.
Mel and Dave surprised me with the most gorgeous golden painted laser cut cake topper (which I’m so excited to finally have), and Peter with a cutting board that had our names lasered onto it. These gifts were not only for our upcoming wedding, but they were also personalized with our names on them, making them that much more meaningful. Although I’ll probably only use the cake topper once in my life, I’m already thinking of ways to incorporate into our home decor. I can already imagine framing it in a shadow box and hanging it up on the wall behind our couch!
If you have someone who enjoys gifts with a little bit more meaning, I would highly recommend going the route of personalized gifts (which can be easily found on etsy.ca). It’s also an amazing way to support local artisans for the holidays by shopping directly from them instead of going the route of big-box stores! Plus you’ll also know that whatever you gift will be one of a kind and no one will ever have the exact same thing! To help you with some inspiration as to what sort of gift to get first, I’ll also leave a link to our wish list with all of our favourites as I know that navigating etsy.ca can be quite daunting since there are so many amazing artisans on there!
For the Wine Lover
I surprised myself earlier this year when I enjoyed a glass of red wine without looking down at it in disgust. Seriously though, up until the end of last year, I could never tolerate the taste of red wine, but for some reason over the holidays I suddenly developed an affinity towards it! As I don’t necessarily consider myself a connoisseur of red wine, I decided to take my foray into the reds slowly by trying out some from Yellow Tail, whom I already knew that I liked their whites. It’s always easiest to dip your toe into the deep end when you know the temperature of the water, and I did just that thanks to my familiarity with Yellow Tail’s whites.
If there’s someone on your Christmas list who loves wine, you can play it safe by picking them up a bottle of Yellow Tail because it never fails to disappoint. I don’t think there’s been a single wine from their repertoire so far that I’ve disliked. And if they’re not a fan? Well, you’ll just get to go home with a bottle all to yourself!
And there you have! A quick comprehensive list of some alternative Christmas gift ideas that you probably never thought of. I hope that this list was of some help for you and that you no longer have to go searching for a special gift for that special someone. Let me know in the comments if you’re already done all of your Christmas shopping or if you haven’t even started yet! In all honesty I fall into the latter category so there’s nothing to be ashamed of. Now that I’ve put together this list, I might just actually go out and grab some of them in order to cross some names of my list! Happy holidays and shopping!
I love the boots recommendations! I need to get winter boots for myself, not for gifting so I’m hoping to find something nice during boxing week!!
