I’m not going to lie, I like to look good everyday. It could be superficial of a thing for me to say, but I’ve always felt the best when I’ve also believed that I look the best. It’s similar to the point that you should be dressing yourself every morning even if you’re going to be working from home. Staying in your pajamas can pretty much bring down anyone’s morals if they’re trying to get work done. And as tempting as it can get to show up to work in a lazy outfit consisting of leggings and my yoga sweaters, it just isn’t going to cut it.
Add a little bit of a Canadian weather into the mix, and you’ve got the easiest scenario of slipping into comfy clothes. But honestly if it wasn’t for this blog, I think that I may just actually end up at work in something “comfortable” and passable. Fortunately, creating new outfits each day drives me to look at my wardrobe differently and to see different ways of putting pieces together. However, on cold days like this, my inspiration has to come from something a little bit off my normal beaten path. Today I chose to be a marshmallow.
Yes, I decided to be food. Let me explain myself. First of all, marshmallows are white – an easy color to base your look off of. Looking into my closet, at least 50% of the things that I own are white. When I’m thinking that I’m cold, the first thing that I reach for are my cozy knit sweaters. Warmth covered? Check. Next off is to cover the other half of my body. Marshmallows sometimes taste the best when they’re a little bit burnt – like from a fire pit. So dark bottoms are my choice for the day. But because the thickness of this sweater and where it lands on my hips can tend to shorten my stature, I needed to do something about my waist line in order to elongate it. Not much can be done in terms of color since marshmallows aren’t the most colorfullest things ou there, so something neutral like my pink long T-shirt. Yes I’ve realized that I’ve failed to remain within my realm of marshmallowy goodness, but humor me here, I don’t exactly have anything brown to layer underneath this sweater. And let’s just agree that everything turned out pretty well.
So it just goes to show that sometimes you don’t need to stare at the pages of Vogue to get inspired in the morning. A little bit of creativity goes a long way. And I definitely hope that I don’t get judged for dressing myself in the mornings through the influence of food. Because it’s actually something that I do quite often. And the burning question of “were you warm?” will absolutely be asked. So my answer is yes, my marshmallowy goodness was warm underneath all of these layers.
