#LoveYourColor With Aveda

#LoveYourColor With AvedaLast Friday, I mentioned that I underwent a major hair makeover. Today I have the pleasure of revealing my brand new do! I’ve actually had this hair for a couple of weeks now and it was so hard not to share it with you immediately. I share almost every aspect of my life with you guys that keeping secrets really tugs at my heart strings.

I was approached by Aveda to participate in their #LoveYourColor campaign and at first I was a little bit hesitant. It’s been almost 10 years since I coloured my hair, and the looking back on old photos of my coloured hair, you can see why I stopped. It wasn’t pretty.

#LoveYourColor With AvedaBut besides that, I also don’t wear a lot of colourful clothing either. I wasn’t sure if I would be the best choice to represent such a colourful campaign. But after mulling it over for a bit, I realized that living your life colourfully doesn’t necessarily mean how you wear colour, but how you are a colourful person as well. Man, if you count the amount of times that I have and will use the word “colour” in the blog post, I’m pretty sure that I’ve exceeded my quote for the day. Scratch that, the month.

#LoveYourColor With AvedaTo me, living colourfully stems from the people that I know. No, I’m not name dropping, but I mean how people become meaningful contributions to my life. If you know me, then you’ll know that coffee and brunch are my two main meals of the day. Forget breakfast, lunch or dinner. I make the most meaningful interactions over coffee and brunch.

I also love meeting new people and hearing their story: what motivates them, what drives them, and how they stay rooted in their values when shooting for the stars. I love connecting with these individuals and learning more about them. I get inspired by their stories and aspire to achieve my dreams.

9I love encountering new challenges, and being stressed every now and then. After all it’s the challenges that we are able to overcome which shape us into who we are. And with that, I felt that I would challenge myself to live more colourfully in regards to my hair.

13About a month before being approached by Aveda, I was feeling very uninspired when it came to my hair. Its colour felt boring, and the length felt lifeless. Long hair has always been my namesake and I wanted to break free from the mold. I wanted a new look and a new style. Too often did I throw my hair up into a ponytail or bun whenever I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it in the morning. I wanted to wake up and feel invigorated just by looking at my hair. We spend so much time looking at ourselves each day that I wanted an energizing canvas to spark creativity.

#LoveYourColor With AvedaI decided that it was time for a change. I jumped at the #LoveYourColor campaign and decided to make the biggest decision of my life in regards to my hair – to cut it short. I’ve never gone shorter than my shoulders within the past 20 years of my life. I have had waist long hair for a solid 10-15 years before I cut it up until right beneath my breasts last year. That was scary enough as it was. This time around, I’ve regrown my hair back to about my elbows and was about to go into the biggest cut of my life.

#LoveYourColor With AvedaI won’t lie, it was scary – but also amazingly liberating. The second component that I really wanted was to change up my hair colour. Don’t get me wrong, I love love love my natural hair colour, but it’s fun to change it up every once in awhile. I know that ombré and balayage is out, but I loved how well it framed my face the last time I got it done. I decided to bite the bullet and to do it again, but this time with a twist – a colour.

After experimenting with warm tones and learning that they don’t mesh well with my skin tone, I decided to go steel blue. This actually also pays a little homage to my childhood days when I used to pretend to be Sailor Mercury while acting out Sailor Moon with my cousins.

I have to say that I am head over heels in love with the steel blue, and the fact that once the colour fades, everything will fade into a nice platinum ombré. Perfect for the longterm.

#LoveYourColor With AvedaAnd now I want you to get the chance to live your life colourfully as well!
