If you lived through this weekend without being sucked into the sales and comitting your credit card to some crazy purchases then I commend you! I for one definitely did not. Fortunately though, I chose against braving the malls and instead spent my Black Friday perusing the sales online.
I actually had the day off and had half the thought of taking advantage of it by going shopping in the early AM. But domestication has settled in and the idea of spending more time in bed snoozing won over the thought of getting up early to try my hands at some deals.
I already knew that I wouldn’t wake up on time to take advantage of any door crashers, so why even get up at all? Almost 99% of in-store sales are available online now anyways, so I thought to myself that it would be a) more comfortable to sit at home in my pajamas clicking “purchase”, b) I could get more sleep by not getting out of bed super early in the morning, and c) if I just didn’t have the patience to fight through the crowds at the mall.
Thank god I made that decision, because when I watched all of the crazy Black Friday footage that was accrued from the States, boy was I glad that I didn’t willingly throw myself into those moshpits. I mean really, is it necessary to snatch something out of the hands of a toddler?
It seriously boggles my mind that Americans can sit down with their family just the night before being thankful of all that they have, only to wake up 5 hours later in the wee hours of the morning to fight for household appliances. ‘Tis definitely not the season of gifting.
But since Black Friday is officially over and out, can I start singing Christmas carols already? The decorations have already been strung up in malls ever since Halloween past, so technically it was already commercially acceptable to be in the holiday mood.
Christmas time is never complete without a blanket of fresh snow, and with it comes the New Year. I’ve also always associated snow to fresh starts, and what better time of the year for winter to fall on than the New Year? New Year, new snow – new you? Corny, I know. But if you really think about it, it all links together.
But it’s been oddly warmer than usual for also longer than usual this year, which leads me to think that we may not even have the chance of seeing snow by Christmas. And you know that it isn’t quite Christmas without it being a white Christmas.
I can’t even imagine what it’s like for the West Coast where it doesn’t snow. But for a side of the country that has never had snow for Christmas, I can see how it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to not have a white Christmas. Now if only the snow would come faster so that we can have that picture perfect Christmas that we know it to be on the East Coast.
