A few weeks back, I wore an outfit during the second day of fashion week featuring a fashion risk that I’d decided to take – wearing culottes. I mentioned that I’d tried them out with a ribbed top, only to realize that I’d yet to share the outfit – so here it is!
Last season, fashion week predicted a slight 60’s resurgence in trends, and that premonition definitely came through. While shopping these past couple of months, I constantly saw ribbed tops, suede, fringe, and lots of loose and silky pajama pants. At first I didn’t think that I could get behind the 60’s style just because it was overly bohemian to me. I’m quite a mashup when it comes to fashion since I can’t quite pin myself down to one particular style, but I have to say that without a doubt, I’m 100% sure that bohemian clothes aren’t my thing.
However after seeing so many ribbed necks, I slowly caved in. I decided that I could try a slightly mod version of the bohemian trend by incorporating ribbed tops into my everyday wear without pairing them together with brightly patterned silk pants to avoid the stereotypical replica 60’s look.
I’d also luckily walked into H&M during one of their surprise 25% off sales and managed to pick up this ribbed short-sleeved top for a steal, which basically meant that it was meant to be. I was meant to own a ribbed top, the same way that I was meant to own these perfectly tailored culottes. And when two things are destined to be part of my closet, the only way to make it even better is by putting the two of them together and seeing what magic happens!
And being such destined pieces, I had to show them off and not clutter up the look by over accessorizing. When the earrings go bye-bye, you know it’s serious business. Pairing everything down with a pair of simple nude heels and my A-line camel jacket, I knew that everything was pulled together without going over the top. And even though the jacket covered up the majority of my outfit, somehow it still let the ribbed top and culottes shine through.
Okay so I lied, I did accessorize a little bit. With the bright sun reflecting off of the snow, there was absolutely no way that I could go outside without a pair of sunglasses, so okay there was one extra piece to the outfit. Although I’ll argue that it’s more of a necessity than an accessory (ha! love how that rhymed) so it’s passable right?
But now that the weather is much warmer, I can’t wait to lose the jacket and go out with this outfit once again so that it can shine in all of its glory. That sounded extremely sappy and lame, but sometimes when you just find that right outfit, there’s this feeling that you just want to wear it over and over again. Or is that just me? Regardless of the fact, you can expect to see me lounging in this again sometime in the near future (minus the jacket of course!).
