It’s odd how different the temperature can be between two cities who are only 5 hours of driving distance away from each other. Ever since coming back to Ottawa for the holidays, I’ve had to layer up like I’ve never done before in Toronto. While I could normally walk around outside in a simple pair of pants and a light sweater in Toronto, it wasn’t the case for Ottawa. Loose knit sweaters are a fan favorite of mine and the pile that I’ve hoarded won’t be hard to spot in my closet. In fact the pile has grown so large that I’ve had to start a new one just for all of the ones that I’ve picked up within the last year! With so many sweaters, it’s easy for some of the older ones to be forgotten. This season I decided to give one of my old faves another try, and I resurrected my camel-colored alpaca hair sweater from the depths of my closet to get a breathe of fresh air (literally) outside.
Underneath my pants is my magical secret to staying warm in the frosty weather – leggings (get your mind out of the gutter!). Yes, they do have a function besides being worn as pants on their own (although I’m completely against that being done!), and I fully maximize their potential of keeping me warm.
Besides just leggings, I always make a conscious effort to also wear my fuzzy socks as well to keep my toes toasty. I love how they’re so stretchy that I can layer them over a pair of ankle socks to double up on the warmth without getting too bulky.
And obviously you can’t forget about the top. Obviously I’m not wearing sweaters by their lonesome and letting the holes in between the loose knit create a little mini tornado inside my shirt. I always layer my sweaters over either a white or nude tank, and if the sweater is loose enough and the neck line is sufficiently high, then I’ll even venture into wearing a henley underneath to escape the wind. Fortunately, my camel-colored alpaca sweater insulates warmth pretty well that I can forgo long layers and just settle with a tank.
The best part? You probably wouldn’t even know that I’m feeling as big as the Michelin man with all of the layers going on underneath unless I told you so – which I just did! Secrets spilled? I guess so now!
