You know the saying or sort of fashion mantra “no whites after Labour Day”? Well to hell with it. I have absolutely no idea where it even stems from, but all I know is that I’m inclined to wear white whenever I please. If you can’t wear it after Labour Day, when are you supposed to start wearing it again?
As far as I know, there’s no official “white clothing is allowed to be worn again day”, so why even bother following the rules?
I heard on the radio the other day was that it stems from the fact that white is mostly a summer color (apparently people have an aversion to anything white in the winter time). But considering the fact that snow is all white, I don’t get why you can’t also wear white in the winter.
Maybe it’s so that you can be discerned from the snow and not appear to be a walking yeti? Although I probably am already perceived as one considering the lack of care I invest into shaving my legs.
In true fashion rebellion mode, I completely nixed the age old adage of saying goodbye to white after Labour Day and whipped out one of the whitest outfits that I could find (plus some blush tones to add some depth to the outfit).
What’s your take on fashion rules? Do you follow them, or make your own ones?
