Bermuda Travel Diaries: 10 Things to Do

For the past few months, I’ve been quite the traveler, and have had the pleasure of going back to Bermuda for my second time to experience it with some fellow Canadian travel creators! As Mark Twain said, “You can go to heaven if you want to. I’d rather stay in Bermuda”, which no truer words have ever been spoken! Bermuda is a whole other species of heaven on Earth and if you’ve never been, then you really need to book a trip there soon! With waters as blue and as far as the eye can see, you can’t help but feel an instant sense of happiness the minute you step off of the plane. Actually, I take that back. If you’re awake while flying over the waters before landing, you’ll already feel the emotions of happiness before you even begin the descent. There’s something about blue water and palm trees that instantly perks up anyone’s mood and I couldn’t help but feel like I was floating on cloud 9 the entire time that I was in Bermuda.

Whether it be your first time on the island, or you’re coming back for more, hopefully my list of recommended things to do will provide you with some ideas in regards to how to spend your time there!

Explore the City of Hamilton

A stroll through the capital of Bermuda is a fun afternoon activity for anyone of any age. With so many shops to explore and streets to walk down, you’ll never run out of things to do in Hamilton. If you happen to come on a weekend towards the end of the summer, you may get lucky and happen upon one of their local street festivals!

There are so many wonderful and local designers to shop from, you’ll find it hard to pick up souvenirs for anyone else except for yourself!

Stay at the Newstead Belmont Hills

Waking up to the sunrise and fall asleep to the sunset was one of the most blissful things that I got to experience the entire time we were on the island (well, besides the massages inside of the grotto). Not only were the views spectacular inside of the rooms, but the infinity pool also offered a phenomenal vantage point of ocean as well.

With such close proximity to so many of the popular local beaches, Newstead Belmont Hills was an ideal location to stay at while we explored Bermuda.

Brunch at Devil’s Isle

Devil’s Isle is apparently known to have some of the best avocado toasts on the island. While we didn’t quite get the chance to try any since they were out of avocados on the day that we were there, I can still promise you that their brunch menu is delicious. With an abundance of smoothie and pressed juice options to choose from, you’ll definitely be able to find one that you like!

I tried both the pancakes and the waffles and can attest that they were just a doubly delicious!

Wander around Flatts Inlet

If you think that the water surrounding Bermuda is blue, just wait till you explore Flatts Inlet. This little inlet with extremely shallow waters seriously showcases the stunning blue tones up close. With several colourful buildings built along the edge, if you look closely enough, the water appears to reflect a rainbow into its depths. Pack a lunch and bring with you when you visit Flatts Inlet so that you can enjoy a picnic along the water’s edge.

Relax at Natura Cave Spa in Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa

You know how some of your best sleeps are the ones that are in complete darkness? The same goes for a massage. Hidden inside of a cave, the atmosphere of Natura Cave Spa exudes complete relaxation and soothing bliss away from the hustle and bustle of other resort goers. We had the lovely chance to receive a massage in one of the tents floating above the water and the gentle rocking motion slowly soothed me to sleep during the treatment. I’ve been to quite a few spas and this one definitely takes the cake. If there is one thing that you must do while visiting Bermuda, it’ll have to be this!

Lunch at Pink Beach Club at The Loren

The Loren is a luxurious property that has an amazing restaurant serving up some of the best poké that I’ve ever tried. Seriously, my mind was blown away by how delicious everything tasted and how fresh the fish was! Your typical poké in North America is usually packed full of carbs in order to minimize the quantity of protein provided but Pink Beach Club forfeited the carbs to create a dish that highlighted the protein.

If you’re feeling thirsty, I’d also recommend the mango smoothie for something to order besides water.

Frolick Amongst the Pink Sand of Pink Beach and Coral Beach

The locals aren’t lying when they tell you that the sand is pink! Instead of being formed by crushed rocks and minerals, the sand along these beaches is actually made up of the finely crushed exoskeleton of a tiny red microorganism that resides within Bermuda’s corals. When it washes up along the coast, it gives the sand a beautiful coral tone. If you’re in search of pink sand, make sure to explore one of these two beaches as not every beach in Bermuda has pink sand.

Sunbath in the in Coves of Warwick Parish – Warwick Long Bay

Instead of sunbathing and swimming in the typical tourist hotspots, head over to Warwick Parish to explore some of the more secluded coves. While these beaches definitely aren’t a secret, they’re much less frequented than the ones at Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay. Be careful when walking amongst the rocks as they can be quite sharp. It’s important to keep your shoes on until you’ve found somewhere that you would like to settle down and set up camp.

There are so many little hidden caves and grottos as you explore the coves so make sure to carve out enough time in your day to spend at least half a day here!

Dine at the Huckleberry Restaurant in the Rosedon Hotel

Beautiful architecture with a warm and inviting glow was the first thing that caught my eye when we pulled up in front of the Rosedon Hotel. The second thing was the delicious food that captivated my appetite. If you’re looking for a romantic and cozy date-night activity, make sure to book a table on their front porch for dinner so that you can listen to the whistling tree frogs as they serenade you into the night.

My favourite dish was the duck and I would highlight recommend that you order it for your main if duck is your preferred protein. I’ll let you find out for yourself exactly how they serve it, but I’ll give you a clue that it isn’t in the traditional style that you’d expect!

Admire the Glow Worms at Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa

If you have the patience and the timing is right, make sure to hunt for glow worms at the Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa! In order to find them, wait for roughly 1 hour after sunset before heading out towards the water. They tend to hover around the shallows near the beach so you’ll just have to keep your eye out for glowing tendrils of light within the water. Count yourself lucky if you spot them because they don’t come out every night.
