I have this thing for stripes, and not just stripes that are nautical in style, but just stripes in general. Don’t confuse these pair of pants with pin-striped trousers because they’re far from anything that is considered formal. I can definitely get away with wearing these to work since I work in such a casual atmosphere, but for the typical worker, these probably won’t cut it for you.
I actually never thought about it until it was brought to my attention, but apparently these pants look similar to the ones that Beetle Juice wore, except for the fact that they’re not white. P was in fact the one that brought it to my attention. I have a pair of baggier white ones that are similar to these, which he officially dubbed my Beetle Juice pants first, but then carried over the title to these ones once he saw me wearing them.
Granted I’m not a ghost that goes around scaring away human beings, though that would be a fun thing to be able to do. To wreak havoc on the people that I have a distaste for while remaining completely invisible – boy would that be a lot of fun. But I’m not exactly the most vindictive person, so I couldn’t possibly see it panning out either.
Compared to Beetle Juice, I’m actually pretty tame, but sometimes my style speaks otherwise. I decided to pair together a heavier texture with the light pin-stripped fabric and went for my knitted crop top that I recently picked up from Aritzia’s annual Clientele sale. It’s more of a wide-banded bandeau as opposed to a crop top since it’s basically a stretchy swathe of cotton wrapped around my chest. But for the sake of wearing it outdoors without offending others, let’s just refer to it as a crop top.
Wearing such minimal amounts of clothing on the top portion of my body left me feeling a little bit naked, so I wanted an option that would not only help me syay relatively covered up, but not sweltering in the summer heat as well – I turned to my beloved J. Crew buttoned-down dress. Instead of wearing it as a dress (as it’s meant to be), I once again turned it into a vest-like garment to help me cover up some of my stomach and shoulders without completely covering up my arms. I’m all for being revealing, but it has to be tasteful. Not about to go walking around at work and outside as if I just got out from the pool.
I wanted to go light on the accessories since the stripped pants already did so much of the talking for this look that I completely skipped out on any jewelry all-together and instead just went straight for the UV protection with a pair of sunnies. Aviators were my pick since there wasn’t anything overly edgy or casual in this outfit to merit my strangely shapped sunglasses.
Tying it all together were my nude Zara pumps. There was already so much black going on in the outfit that I didn’t want to appear as if I was going to a funeral by wearing black shoes as well. These nude ones were the first ones that popped into my head as non-intrusive to everything else and surprisingly worked out well.Ignore the casual scab, I got that from breaking in another pair of new shoes – you know what they say “do it for the fashion”.
