A couple weeks back, I had the luxury of pre-shopping the H&M X Balmain collaboration collection the night before it launched for public. Talk about lucky! I’ve long since been a fan of Olivier Rousteing’s wearable art and have always wanted to get my hands one of his pieces.
One look at the detailing on any of his pieces and you can tell that each one is quite literally made out of his blood, sweat, and tears. Also, no one can make shoulder pads look as good as Olivier Rousteing. Thought they were left back in the 90s? Think again.
I could only make it out to the event after work, and by the time I got into the media line, there was already a significant number of people ahead of me. I had pre-shopped the pre-shop and had formulated a list of what I wanted pre-emptively to make sure that I didn’t waste a single minute.
Toppingoff my list was the white beaded blazer that Kendall Jenner wore in all of the campaign ads. But, I knew that it was in high demand and the supply was low – so the odds were against me.
Low and behold, by the time it came to my turn to enter the cage (yes, that’s what they referred to as the roped off zone for the collection – but it really did feel like you were entering a boxing ring), the blazer had already been long sold out – as was many other pieces that were on my Lust Listt.
Luckily for me, I was able to score 3/5 of the items that I wanted. I couldn’t be more than satisfied with them, as overall, they were already setting me back about $700.
Topping my Lust Listt was also this double-breasted satin blazer. I was feeling a little Michael Jackson in it, and couldn’t help by button it all the way up to my collar. I doubt that it’s meant to be a dress, but being the petite shorty that I am, it was just long enough to pull off as one. I mean, if I’m all buttoned up on top, I don’t need to cover up the bottom right?
Don’t worry, I made sure to slip on some gym shorts underneath to cover up as a fail safe in case of any rogue gusts of wind!
If you’re curious to see what else made it into my shopping bag at the pre-shop, make sure to come back next week! I’ll be styling some of the pieces for the holidays and showing you how to easily work the pieces into the perfect holiday party outfit!
