A Marble Obsession

A Marble Obsession

Here’s to my official announcement that I’m back living downtown! It’s been a great run up in North York for the past year, but I’ve always felt that downtown was more of my home. Afterall, I basically spend every day of my life here anyways. Revolving between work and blogging, I pretty much live and breathe the downtown air.

P and I have been in our new place now for about a month now (damn, time sure flies!) and I’ve quickly gone full domestic mode in terms of taking care of the place and decorating. I’ll admit that I’ve kind of jumped onto the marble bandwagon as you can clearly tell that I’ve been obsessed with the pattern.

It’s strange how I went from full on symmetry when it comes to the windowpane print to something as organic as the variations in marble veining. But I’ll admit that I rather admire the randomness of the pattern and have come to appreciate how each and every single piece of marble is unique.

Besides attempting to basically marble-ize my entire condo (I’ve got some cutting boards, coasters and a soon to come fruit bowl), my marble obsession has begun to push the boundaries beyond just aninimate objects. Not only do I decorate with marble, but I wear it now too.

As a Bench. Canada ambassador, I get the chance to shop their collections immediately as they hit stores. When I walked in this month, my eyes immediately gravitated towards their Megascopic Jacket and I just knew that my marble obsession was about to realized in the form of clothing.

I mean, how could I say no to all of that beautiful veining? Added to the fact that it’s white marble (that’s my preference when it comes to colouring), I found myself reaching for it before I even realized what was happening.

If a marbled jacket is a bit much for you, no worries, the jacket itself is also reversible – which also proved useful for me when I had to carry some large boxes without fearing of ruining my jacket.

And although it looks lightweight and not exactly cut out for the harsh Canadian winters, trust me when I say that the lining was more than enough for me to prance around in this crop top in -10 degree weather without feeling any of the cold wind. It may or may not be down, but whatever it is, it did its job for me.

But like I said, the marble patterning can sometimes come of as a bit much, so I decided to keep the rest of my outfit as neutral as possible in order to allow for the jacket to shine and receive the attention that it deserved.

I picked up the City Pant last month when I was doing my October shopping and have been wearing them nonstop since then. It’s ridiculous not only how comfortably they are, but how well they perform as well when it comes to blocking out the cold. Not sure what material they’re made out of (similar to splash pants), but it does its job by blocking out the wind.

Between the jacket and the pants, I’m more or less weather-proofed for this time of year until the snow comes.  Or so you’d think – there’s always the last and final component that not everyone tends to think about – their head.

Let me take a moment to bring some science into this not so scientific blog – your body loses the majority of its heat through your head. It escapes out and up into the atmosphere without you even knowing it. So although your head may not necessarily feel cold (like the way the rest of your body does), you’ve got make sure that you keep it covered as well to truly stay warm.

And that’s where my toque comes into play. Yep I said it – toque. I’m Canadian, so there’s nothing to hide. Here we call them toques instead of beanies, but truth be told, I often find myself switching between the two.

So what’s your take on this marble jacket? The perfect companion to your marble obsession? Or going a little over the top with the whole trend?
