70s Flair

Okay maybe not so much 70s and a little bit more of 90s, but I got a heavy 70s vibe from this ultra-denim skirt’s silhouette. Though denim skirts may be uber 90s, the flare is not. 90s skirts were all about the short hemlength and body-hugging figure, whereas the 70s were completely ga-ga for the flare.

Remember all of those insanely flared out bell-bottom jeans or even the loosely flowing silk pajama pants? I don’t – only because I didn’t exist in that era, but I certainly remember seeing ads for that time.

But as a child, I did basically grow up with fashion from the 70s from flipping through all of the photos that my parents collected. You can say that browsing through photo albums was (and still is) a favourite past time of mine.

I’ve never been much of a fan for front-button bottoms since it’s ridiculously annoying having to unbutton and rebutton up your clothes every single time that you go to the washroom, but considering the fact that this came as a skirt, I figured that having the ability to yank it up made for having a line of buttons.

Pro-tip: I highly recommend wearing a pair of shorts underneath any button skirts just in the case that you somehow accidentally undo all of the buttons. You never know and it’s nice to be on the safe side!

Because of the thick denim material and geometric silhouette, I felt that it would be best to pair the skirt with a daintier top that wouldn’t overwhelm my frame. I also added a waistcoat because layering is kind of necessary this time of the year in order to stay warm.

But because of all of the solid choices on top, I wanted to break it all up with a little bit of detail in the shoes. These pointed and strappy Zara flats were an easy go-to since their comfort level matched that of my outfit – but didn’t look too casual. Ready for work, this 70s/90s esque inspired outfit was functional for not only looking presentable but feeling comfortable as well.
